Sagrantino is an ancient red grape variety, typical of Umbria and the Montefalco area, considered the most tannic in Italy.
The old vineyard of Sagrantino at Fongoli winery is harvested at the end of October, with fully ripe clusters. The fermentation process takes place in open terracotta amphorae for three months, which imparts an unusual freshness to the wine. Then, a long aging period in oak is necessary to soften the powerful tannins of Sagrantino.
This is an extremely complex wine, with hints of black cherries, mixed berry jam, earth, graphite, and licorice. The palate is strong and overwhelming. It offers an exceptional interpretation of Sagrantino, perfectly balanced between power and smoothness.
